My Quest for an Eco-Friendly Electric Toothbrush

Finding an eco-friendly electric toothbrush that cleans well and lasts long has been challenging for me. What’s the point of a “green” toothbrush if you need to replace it every few months? (I’m looking at you, Georganics.)

This quest ended when I discovered the SURI Toothbrush two years ago. Here’s my suri toothbrush review as it has accompanied me around the world and proved its durability.

Benefits

  • Excellent cleaning performance
  • Long-lasting battery
  • Sleek, compact design
  • Eco-friendly materials
  • Repairable if damaged

Drawbacks

  • Manufactured in China
  • It lacks a pressure sensor
  • Power decreases over time

Introducing the SURI Toothbrush

SURI, which stands for Sustainable Rituals, is a stylish, eco-friendly electric toothbrush that can be fully recycled. The base is made from aluminium, and the replaceable heads are castor oil and corn starch. It uses sonic cleaning technology with dual-speed modes for effective cleaning.

Dentists recommend it, and with a 4.8 out of 5 rating on Trustpilot, over 3,000 users agree that SURI is a top choice.

Key Features of the SURI Toothbrush

  • 33,000 sonic vibrations per minute
  • Battery life exceeding 40 days
  • Quick 4-hour charging
  • Built-in 2-minute timer
  • Quiet operation (54dB)
  • Waterproof with IPX7 rating
  • Two cleaning modes
  • Components that can be recycled and repaired

My Personal Experience with SURI

I purchased my Midnight Black SURI toothbrush in the spring of 2022. Here’s how it has held up:

  • Design: The base looks as good as new and is easy to clean. The travel case prevents scratches.
  • Cleaning Power: It continues to clean effectively with no loss of power.
  • Battery Life: It lasts about 1.5 months per charge and has remained consistent.
  • Brush Heads: Each head lasts 1-2 months before the bristles start to spread out. I need to apply less pressure while brushing.

The Advantages

  • Exceptional Cleaning: Unlike other eco-friendly electric toothbrushes, SURI leaves my teeth exceptionally clean. It offers two modes: everyday cleaning and polishing. The polishing mode gives an extra-clean feel.
  • Impressive Battery Life: SURI stands out with its long battery life. I get about 45 days between charges, and recharging takes only 4-5 hours.
  • Elegant and Compact Design: The SURI toothbrush is sleek and available in colourscolours like off-white, black, green, and blue. Its compact base makes it travel-friendly and easy to pack.
  • Environmentally Friendly Materials: SURI uses sustainable materials like castor oil, corn starch, and aluminium. The heads are compostable, and the base has a high-end look.
  • Repairable Components: If it breaks, you can send it back for repairs, aligning with their sustainability goals. Repairs are free under warranty and reasonably priced otherwise.

The Disadvantages

  • Manufactured in China: Although SURI is sustainable, it is produced in China, which increases its carbon footprint. The founders are considering relocating production closer to home.
  • No Pressure Sensor: I have difficulty applying the right amount of pressure, causing the heads to wear out faster. A pressure sensor would be a helpful addition.
  • Decreasing Power Over Time: Mine is slightly less powerful than a new SURI toothbrush. I might use their repair service soon.

Final Thoughts

I’m pleased to have found an electric toothbrush that is both effective and sustainable. The battery life and design are excellent, and it has held up well over two years. Despite being made in China, it’s the best option for reducing plastic waste with its recyclable and compostable components. I recommend SURI to my friends and family, and they are impressed, too.
